Operationally it was a torture test: weeks of daily riding, every weather Poland has, roads from motorway to gravel, and a charging plan built entirely around where electricity actually was. That is a boda-boda duty cycle — 150 km a day, every day, with no workshop waiting at the end of it.\n\n## Lesson 1 — Range anxiety is a network problem, not a battery problem\n\nThe battery never failed. What nearly failed was the plan: a socket that did not exist, a café that had closed, a 20 km detour to the next charger. On the ride I solved it with a map and goodwill. In a fleet you cannot. This is why MargTor designs the **swap network before the vehicle**: a cabinet every 30 km radius with 12 charged packs beats a 20% bigger battery every time, and it moves the capital cost from the rider to the operator.\n\n## Lesson 2 — Heat decides battery life, not kilometres\n\nPoland in summer is mild compared to Mombasa or Kinshasa, and still the pack temperature was the number I watched most. In East Africa we specify **LFP chemistry**, active balancing and a BMS that logs cell temperatures to the cloud. A pack that is cycled hot without data is a pack whose warranty you cannot honour.\n\n## Lesson 3 — The rider is part of the powertrain\n\nSeating position, bar height, where the cargo sits — after eight hours they are not comfort questions, they are productivity questions. Our 2W platforms are built around a Kenyan rider carrying a passenger or 100 kg of produce, with a reinforced sub-frame and a 30° gradeability target, because the hills around Nairobi do not care about brochure numbers.\n\n## Lesson 4 — Log everything\n\nEvery day of the ride was recorded: energy per kilometre, charge events, faults. That data is what made the record verifiable. In a fleet, the same telemetry is what makes a **loan verifiable** — a lender can see the asset earning, charging and repaying. The IoT unit is not an accessory; it is the collateral.\n\n## Lesson 5 — Local hands matter more than remote experts\n\nThe ride was finished by a small crew who could fix a controller connector in a car park. Fleets are kept alive by the same kind of people. That is why every MargTor deployment includes training for local technicians and why I spend my time in Nairobi, not in a conference room in Europe.\n\n*Gregory Radek is Co-Founder & CTO of MargTor Ltd. and East Africa's leading industry expert on electric two- and three-wheelers.
